Toronto’s Leadership Project was host of the INTAR conference once more. The conference (“Challenging Our Understanding of Psychosis and Exploring Alternatives for Recovery”) provided a forum for activists, writers, critical psychiatrists, clinicians, and researchers from six countries to explore the social dimensions of psychosis.

 

The conference presenters addressed the limits of bio-medical reductionism, the social, societal and environmental roots of psychosis, and offered compelling examples of recovery projects and approaches.

 

Keynote presenters, Robert Whitaker and Richard Bentall, stirred conference participants with their stark assessments of what ails us in mental health, calling for intellectual honesty and kindness, above all.
